12 inch high numbers on this giant display guarantee that it can be seen from as far away as 200 yards. Easily transported and set up by the roadside. When connected to a Speedar hand-held radar, the display shows the speed measured by the Speedar. The operator may stand up to 50 feet away from the display with the Speedar or it may be permanently fixed to the display.

The display may be set to show only speeds above a threshold value and/or only the speeds of oncoming vehicles. Various options are available including internal battery and charger, remote or fixed radar sense head, plastic or aluminium casing, printed legends and printer output.

4 Character + speed

Thresholds may be set for the display of TOO FAST and SLOW DOWN separately Speeds may be displayed all the time or only below the threshold or never Radar can be built in or remote

Optional Features

Displays are available having 2 or 3 digits with either remote, attached or built-in Speedar radar speed measurement heads. Also available are versions with built-in Speedlog traffic data loggers with logging display visible through a side window. These versions allow vehicles to be counted whilst the speed is displayed and the data stored for later downloading to a pc for analysis. All versions may have a flip-up protective cover which will display a message when in the raised position. Messages may be any colour and wording to choice, they may be changed by peeling off the letters and replacing them with an alternative. Rubber feet are supplied as standard but other mounting arrangements are available. Cases may be in any BS colour.

All these displays show only the speed of approaching vehicles

Uses

Our interactive speed displays are ideal for slowing down traffic in problem areas such as school entrances. The speed of vehicles is highly visible to EVERYONE in the vicinity and this produces an embarrassment factor in drivers exceeding the limit usually causing them to slow down. They also serve to alert drivers whose concentration is wandering. Also helpful in slowing down traffic at road works where worker protection is needed, the messages shown by the LED signs are particularly usefull here as they may also be made to flash thus attracting attention. Versions with mechanical displays are ideal for portable use where they may be carried in the back of a van or large car and placed at chosen sites for short periods. These have built in batteries which last for over 2 days between charges. Versions with LED displays are more suitable for semi- permanent installation where they can be set to flash messages such as SLOW DOWN or TOO FAST as well as or instead of speeds. These versions require external power eg 12V car battery. Narrow viewing angles make then visible even on sunny days and the leds are the approved road signal orange tint. All these interactive signs are driven from a Speedar radar or logger which may be internal or external. Versions with the inbuilt logger can also be used to verify their own effectiveness by storing vehicle speeds and numbers.

How it works

All our interactive displays work in the same way. The speed to be displayed is measured by one of our Speedar radars, which may be hand-held, mounted externally on the display or built internally into the display. The Speedar may be either the standard version or a Speedlog version. The speed measured by the Speedar or Speedlog is sent via an RS232 serial link to the display controller. Since Speedar is a direction sensing radar, as well as measuring speed, it knows whether a vehicle is approaching or receding. This direction information is also sent to the display, so that the controller can discard the speeds of vehicles which are travelling away from the display and would not therefore be able to see it. The controller then drives the appropriate segments in the electromagnetic display or the pixel groups in the LED display. In the electromechanical displays the minimum speed to be shown is settable via thumbwheel switches on the back of the unit. The display may also be programmed to blank above set speeds to stop drivers trying to see how fast they can go. In the LED displays several inbuilt messages can be shown at settable speed thresholds, along with a minimum and maximum speed to be shown. These are programmable via a serial link from a pc or laptop.
